Uttar Pradesh Wins National Physical Disability Cricket Title, Highlighting the Rise of Inclusive Sport in India

30/05/2026

Uttar Pradesh has won the 5th Elite National Divyang T-20 Cricket Championship 2026, defeating defending champions Mumbai by four wickets in the final at the Sports Garden Cricket Ground in Bengaluru.

The tournament, which brought together leading physical disability cricket teams from across India, underlined the growing strength of inclusive sport and the increasing visibility of athletes with disabilities in national competition.

According to the Times of India, Uttar Pradesh Physical Disability Cricket Association produced a major upset by beating Mumbai in the title clash. Mumbai had entered the final as defending champions after securing their place with a strong semifinal performance, while Uttar Pradesh advanced after an impressive campaign of their own.

The final followed a competitive knockout stage in which Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh won their semifinal matches to set up the championship contest. Earlier reports from the Times of India noted that the title clash would be held on 24 May 2026 in Bengaluru, after both teams earned their places through strong performances in the last-four stage.

For India’s rehabilitation, prosthetics, orthotics and disability inclusion community, the championship represents more than a sporting achievement. It highlights how structured sport can support confidence, participation, peer identity and social inclusion for people with physical disabilities.

Adaptive and disability sport can play an important role in rehabilitation pathways, especially when linked to long-term mobility, strength, balance, endurance and psychosocial wellbeing. For people using prosthetic limbs, orthoses, mobility aids or other assistive technologies, sport can also provide a powerful platform for functional independence and community participation.

The success of competitions such as the Elite National Divyang T-20 Cricket Championship shows the importance of accessible sporting infrastructure, trained coaches, classification systems, medical support and rehabilitation-informed athlete development. These elements help ensure that athletes with physical disabilities can compete safely and at a high level.

India has a growing ecosystem of disability sport, including cricket, wheelchair cricket, para-athletics and other adaptive disciplines. The visibility of national tournaments can help shift public perception from disability as limitation to disability as participation, performance and leadership.

For Bharat CPO, the tournament is also a reminder of the important connection between clinical rehabilitation and real-world outcomes. The goal of prosthetic and orthotic care is not only walking, standing or basic daily function. It is also participation in family life, education, work, recreation and sport.

As Uttar Pradesh celebrates its national title, the wider message is clear: inclusive sport deserves stronger support across India. Investment in rehabilitation, assistive technology, accessible facilities and athlete pathways can help more people with disabilities move from recovery to participation, and from participation to performance.

The 2026 championship has demonstrated the talent, competitiveness and determination of India’s physical disability cricketers. It also reinforces the need for health, rehabilitation, sport and disability organisations to work together to expand opportunities for athletes across the country.
