North India is home to the country’s oldest prosthetics and orthotics teaching centres, and most of them are in Delhi. This page lists Bachelor in Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO) and Master in Prosthetics and Orthotics (MPO) programmes in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan that we could verify on an official institution page or in the Rehabilitation Council of India’s list of approved institutions (rehabcouncil.nic.in). RCI sets the curricula: the BPO runs for four and a half years including internship, the MPO for two years, and the two-year Diploma in Prosthetics and Orthotics (DPO) is still on RCI’s list of regular-mode programmes (rehabcouncil.nic.in).
| State | Institution and location | Programme |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi | Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities (PDUNIPPD), 4 Vishnu Digambar Marg, New Delhi | BPO (affiliated to the University of Delhi, Faculty of Science); MPO (10 seats) |
| Delhi | Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, Department of Rehabilitation, Safdarjung Hospital, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi | BPO (RCI list shows approval for 2026-27 to 2027-28) |
| Delhi | Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, Institute of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Sector C, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi | BPO and MPO (listed on RCI’s approved institutions list) |
PDUNIPPD also runs a one-year Certificate Course in Bench Skills for workers who assemble and fit artificial limbs and orthoses under the supervision of prosthetists and orthotists (pdunippd.nic.in). This is a technician-level route, not a professional O&P qualification. Its Composite Regional Centre in Srinagar lists a degree in prosthetics and orthotics only as a proposed future course (crcsrinagar.nic.in).
At the time of writing we could not confirm, from an official institution page or RCI’s list, a currently approved BPO, MPO or DPO programme in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand or Rajasthan. That does not mean none exist: some institutional websites could not be checked. Before applying, look up the institution’s RCI approval and intake for the current academic year on the RCI website or the NBER student portal (nber-rehabcouncil.gov.in), and confirm the affiliating university. If you plan to work abroad later, check whether the programme holds ISPO accreditation (ispoint.org), as overseas regulators often ask about it. See also our O&P careers abroad guides.
